Book Review: The Clocks (Hercule Poirot, #39) - Agatha Christie

I have to congratulate Agatha Christie and at the same time admonish her attitude regarding her most famous creation.

As you can see on the title, this is a Poirot book. Well then where is Poirot?

There is a crime and we are introduced to a bunch of characters making Colin Lamb & Inspector Hardcastle going door to door understand everything. At 200 pages (so 50% more or less) finally Colin Lamb introduce us Poirot who basically gives him a riddle and says go investigate yourself.

Lamb goes investigate and  Poirot comes back at page 370's  (Chapter 27) saying well, since you are idiots, here is the solution for the crime. Investigate further and see if everything checks out (it did)

Basically the purpose of Poirot, almost a god creature, he should be around what? He was born in the 1894 and at 60's so he was in his 70's. Yet he didn't even have to talk with no one, just by the transcript (word by word lol) conversation between the police and the people he finds out everything.

He then comes in the end and saves the day.

Don't get me wrong. I enjoy the novel. I enjoy the plot, the crime, the investigation but this shows that most people are rather useless and only Poirot can really get everything. There is also interesting views of  Agatha Poirot of mystery writers.

Overall, it was not hard and I must say I Was partly correct on the criminal. Don't going to spoil anything and although it was one of the easiest ones; Agatha throws us a curve ball that we had no way of knowing right until the end.

It's just a shame that Poirot was not there. She didn't want to write more Poirot novels, we all know that and this shows it. OH well, only more 4 novels to go.
