Synopsis

A global plague has nearly vanquished mankind; the citizenry of New York City is no exception. Eight million zombies. Shoulder to shoulder. The residents of an Upper East Side walkup have joined forces to keep themselves safe, the pageant of walking rot outside their windows a constant reminder of the their foreseeable fate. Trapped in the safety of their building, the tenants find themselves at each others’ throats. When they spy a lone teenage girl who walks unharmed among the undead, impervious, their world opens up.

Review

As you all know, I love a good zombie book and I grab one I read it in a flash. This novel premise is good but the ending not so good. 

The story begins after the "end of the world" and zombies are infesting the city of NY. The residents of a building are starving when a girl arrives walking freely amidst the zombies. She arrives as a saviour and start doing chores for them. But this girl is different. 
Some residents start wondering why can't she do what she can and not they. After months in isolation the mind of the residents is completly destroyed, paranoid so the interaction between them and the girl and the zombies is one of the highlight of the novel. 

The ending was quite different from what I expected and that was dissapointed. I think it was against the setting of the book or the mood.

Review

 This was a great novella to read. What a story and most important and beautiful... the drawings. Simply magnific. I really love them. Amano is one of my favourite artists, being a reader of Vampire Hunter D and having a couple of Art books by him. 

Everyone knows The Sandman right? So I am not going to dwell on that. This is a tale that could be a fable from the old ancient Japan. 

The King of All Night's Dreaming was my favourite character and it really made me dream. The story is quite beautiful and one that everyone should read about it. Love & Revenge. Bittersweetness is the keyword. 

It all begins with a wager between two animals. The winner would take a monk's temple. But the monk is not fooled and the fox become in love with him. Then the fox goes to great lenghts to protect the monk and vice versa; going even to Morpheu's dreamland. 

This is one of those tales that you could read it all in one sipping before going yourself to Morpheus's realm. The book is worth having just for the drawings. 9/10

Review

This is the first book by Jack Yeovil (aka Kim Newman) and what a read it was. In the beginning of the novel we see Genevieve, Prince Oswald and her band of adventures fighting the Great Enchanter Drachenfels. The novel is devided in acts like a play which gave the feeling of reading a script of one. 

After the demise of Drachenfels and several years later Detlef Sierck, a playwright, wants to make a play about that event. The first couple of chapters is about Detlef joining the right persons to enact the protagonists including the surviving members of the real battle to teach the actors. And from this moment on nothing happens according to plan and it was a nice tale of mystery in gothic scenery. The ending is quite good and I couldn't see it coming. 

If you want to read about vampires in Warhammer I would advice you to buy this book (there is a omnibus with all novels). I would also advice to anyone who wants to read a nice book of fantasy, gothic/vampire novel. 9.5/10

Review: Dreadfleet - Phil Kelly

Dreadfleet is the first novel (to my knowledge) by Phil Kelly. He also have some rulebooks in the Warhammer/40k. 

This is a novella not a full lenghted book but I think it was the right size. Here we follow the aventures of Captain Roth and his crew with other pirate lords as they try to defeat the scourge of the sea; Count Noctilus. 

Of course reading this novel one must compare to Fell Cargo because is the other novel set in warhammer world with a naval theme. I must say I enjoy this one better. First the pirate lords are a interesting bunch then the battle scenes are also better. Even te image the writer gives us of the pirate lords cities feel like we are there. 

I would advice to anyone who is interesting in playing the tabletop game or anyone who likes Warhammer 7/10

Review

As you all know I am a Stargate Atlantis afficionado. And even if the books aren't that good I try reading them. Why? Because I Really love the series. But some stories don't feel Stargate Atlantis stories. And this was one of them. Even the characters didn't felt like those we knew. 

Basically we have several dimensions and each one with our characters. So each one is one dimension and must find a way to the right one. Everyone got a part and in this novel even Zelenka as the right to "speak". 

Unfortunally there is too much time wasted with everyone seperated that I didn't enjoy. And as I said before each character felt different from what we are used to it. Even the funny dialogues so characteristic from the colonel and Mckay aren't that good. 4/10

 Another Poirot book read. I read these books in portuguese or else I would never read anything in my native language. 

Some Poirot books are great and others and interesting. The only one I didn't enjoy was The Big Four. 

In this tale Poirot arrives at the scene of the crime only a third of the book and Captain Hasting doesn't appear at all. I personally enjoy Captain Hastings narration but we work with what we have. 

A nurse is hired by a archaeologist to take care of his wife not because she is sick but because she of mental health. She is receiving some letters from the brother of her previous husband. Eventually she is killed and Poirot arrives at the scene. And it seems that someone from the expedition is the culprit and everyone has it's motifs. 

As I learn, Agatha Christie was married to archeologist so this novel but be a special one in her career. I enjoyed the novel and it's a good one. But the ending is not as solid as other novels by her.
