Audiobook Review: Mission: Purge

Mission: Purge Mission: Purge by Gav Thorpe
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This is another weak audiobook. A group of space marines from various chapters converged in a Deatwatch Kill team in the service of the inquisition are investigating a ship that two years before travelled to a planet that moments later was Exterminatus because a genestealer infestation.

Ok, I don't even know how to rate this book. Nothing happens besides - (view spoiler).

Criticism
1) No character development. Urbino and Artemis (See spoiler)

2) No plot development (Again the spoiler).

3) Audiobook - Price.

Praises
1) I'm afraid it's hard to fine any praise whatsoever. Maybe, and only maybe - the Doom Eagles are mention by the Space Wolves as he tries to find who his Urbino.

Final Thoughts 2/10
Again. Why buy this? Black Library prey on my gullible to buy everything they publish. I have yet to find a book I say "it's weak as hell". But audiobooks... Almost all of them.

Advisable
If you are rich or get it for free. 72m you won't have them back.

Book Review: Check and Checkmate

Check and Checkmate Check and Checkmate by Walter M. Miller Jr.
My rating: 5 of 10 stars

It's a great short story - novella?

It's a satire about two isolated superpowers. Imagine that you live in one site of a wall and the other are another super power you don't know nothing about? Imagine now that the level of suspicion and fear is so much that the president has ten doubles and he never show is face around. Authoritarian vs Communist. It was interesting to see the level of paranoia of the USA/Liberty/Authoritarian goverment against an Pan-Russia/Asian Communism... that you know nothing about.

It was nice to see the reactions of both leaders as they tried to talk and at the same time to threat each other. It has a nice twist in the end.

Politics are always fun...

If you want to picture this story, picture north korea... what do you know about them? Almost nothing, now imagining being south korea and knowing nothing about what is happening in the north part of the country and always living in fear that they will attack you... It will consume you... It will turn you to what you most fear...

Small and good... I advice to anyone.

Audiobook Review: Doctor Who: The Evil of the Daleks

Doctor Who: The Evil of the Daleks Doctor Who: The Evil of the Daleks by John Peel
My rating: 8 of 10 stars

What means having the human factor? What does it mean to have the Dalek factor? This tale takes back to the nineteen century where the daleks are trying to figure what makes humans... human. As they test on Jamie the Doctor uses three daleks as subject as per accord of the other daleks. As they are transported to the Dalek homeworld the Doctor meets the Dalek Emperor where he says that the daleks are doomed since some of them are now "human". The emperor reveals that all of that research was to have a dalek factor and put the doctor working for them as he would travel through time and infect the dalek factor in all human race.

Of course nothing of this happens since now some of the daleks are human they have free will and start question the emperor orders and it result in full civil war.

Quite a critic on humankind Mr directors of Doctor Who.

One of the best Dr Who novels, scripts. It's unfortunate that only 1 episode of 7 survives...

This is also the first episode with Victoria. What a charming beautiful girl. It will be a pleasure seeing her in the adventures with Jamie and the Doctor.

Thoughts XXXV: Generic Main Characters in Anime

One of the reasons I critizize animes is because of the main protagonists. As I am watching To Aru Majutsu no Index I feel that this main character is a lot like other main characters on animes. Generic White Knights who don't know how to give up, and even put themselves at risk while overcoming odds that are impossible to achieve. This upsets me a lot. That's why in novels I like grimdark fantasy where the main characters have flaws, they can even have very bad traits. Most are anti-heroes or even evil doers (40K I'm looking at you).

These main characters are all the same. They fight save and have harems. There are absurd amount of animes with these characters. That's why I gave up on this anime and I was trying to finish I remember why I had previously given up.

There are very few shows who can get away with this - Dan Machi is one of them.

Look at Rising of Shield Hero; Re:Zero - both main characters have a lot of flaws - and that's w reason why people love them. Why can't the authors understand this?

Audiobook Review: Doctor Who and the Abominable Snowmen

Doctor Who and the Abominable Snowmen Doctor Who and the Abominable Snowmen by Terrance Dicks
My rating: 6 of 10 stars

A nice Doctor Who story. One of the first with Victoria Waterfield but as all other previous female characters she is under used. She is considered by all as a helpless girl even if she think she is not. The men take part of the investigation and the conclusion of the mystery. Victoria as almost no part on it besides being a puppet.

Kind of spoilers ahead.

I like the idea of Yeti and the Himalayas but unfortunately there wasn't a single drop of snow. What a dissapointing. I also enjoy the idea behind the yeti being machines controled by The Great Intelligence.

Book Review: Curse of the Everliving

Curse of the Everliving Curse of the Everliving by David Guymer
My rating: 3 of 10 stars

First of all. I don't like audiobooks or ebooks. But I hear it nevertheless.

This was the second audiobook of Gotrek and Felix. This was is like the previous ones that don't follow a fix timeline. But being on snow and near kislev I would say that this book is between two of these novels: Beastslayer, Vampireslayer or Giantslayer.

The story is quite simple as they discover some being they battle and Gotrek Won. End of audiobook. It is not. It's a book that will leave you as empty as before reading. We learn nothing about the characters. And that's horrible. What I want is to my characters develop and after each novel of Gotrek and Felix learn a bit more about them. In this one I learn nothing. Ah... And the voice of Felix is horrible. The sound effects are good.

Unless you are a die hard fan of BL or G&F don't bother.

Book Review: The Genesis Secret

The Genesis Secret The Genesis Secret by Tom Knox
My rating: 6 of 10 stars

This is going to be a hard book to review. Overall it was an enjoyable book but I thought it felt short to my expectations half way there. And the ending was abysmal. The author really wanted to wrap things up and make all alive characters to live happily ever after. So unlike... life.

Praises
The Pace - The book really flows from chapter to chapter and the tale until the last 100 pages we follow two different characters. Our main protagonist and the DCI Forrester.

History - So much history and archaeology in this book that really made me search the net about it. I really enjoy all the detailed information (I read in the net that the german diggers on the site that this book take place were a bit sad because Tom Knox strech the fiction). Nevertheless to me a book is a discovery. Everything they say about a culture I search to see if it is true or fiction. I learn a lot.

The lore - Most of the times the interpretation of the bible fails to achieve anything besides pure fiction and you dismiss it as a Dan Brown wannabe. (Not that I love him). Tom Knox made this novel about Genesis. How humankind is the way it is. Why they left the Hunter-Gatherer society to farming. Why humankind is so propense to violence and sacrifices. Why the similarities between several cultures that are quite apart. The Gigantopithecus relation and hominid. Enfin. Really enjoy it all.

The gore - The depictions of some of the killings are really good. It made me unconfortable. Yes indeed. If I wanted rainbows and pussycats I would read a romance novel. The reason we read thrillers is for a fast paced book with a lot of tension.

Criticism

Main Character Luttrell - He is quite frankly a guy that just do things. Why would the Yezidi tell him all the secrets? That just stupid. A religion that supposedly don't mix with other cultures and keep their secrets, well, secret. Why share it with a journalist? That's stupid.

Loveable Christine - That's a ridiculous good girl. She is almost perfect without flaws. The love with Lutrell just springs up from nowhere. Now a spoiler (view spoiler)

Main Antagonist - What a heck was that??? He was the bad guy? So he knows he is a super intelligent psychotic and he talks and talks and talks... He has all characteristics of a comic evil mastermind.

description

We don't know if he has a cat but... you get the picture. At least he killed some people in some interesting ways...

The ChildThe son of Lutrells experiences something just awful. But after being rescued it's just like nothing had happened. After all she was threatened and obliged to watch a woman being killed like in the style of blood eagle.

Police Forrester - His child had die (and when know it in the beginning) but it has no influence whatsoever in the tale. But in my opinion he was a better protagonist than Lutrell (even if Lutrell had twice the amount of chapters than Forrester).

The EndingSo they won, the bad guy died (even if he achieved his purpose) and after only a couple of weeks of knowing each other Luttrell and Christine get married and NO repercussions remain in their mind. Even Forrester smile. A old woman had to die, of course, and the young couple inherited her house. Its a beautiful present with a big red ribbon where everything was wrap up just perfect. I couldn't imagine a more... stupid ending. Don't get me wrong I like happy endings from time to time. But this one was just ridiculous.

Final Thoughts
The real question of this book remains. Why was a massive temple built, several thousand years before "civilization" was born, and then covered it up with rocks? Why humankind left the hunter-gathered way to follow a more arduous, less rewarding, time consuming way (farming)? These two questions are quite good Tom Knox. Why why why?

Advisable
To someone who wants to read about archaeology and history. For a fan of thrillers... hmm maybe to a thriller aficionado.

Anime Review: Happy Birthday: Inochi Kagayaku Toki (1999)

Well this anime sure is dark. Asuka is a girl who is bullied day after day at school and at home her mother beats her and even says she wished she hadn't had a girl. By the ancient gods this is depressing...

In this show they talk about a lot of things usually anime doesn't talk about. Disable and handicapped people. They even try to make us understand people in japan are not all perfect like in most animes.

It's a dark show I really can't advise to anyone who gets sensitive with this kind of situations. But it's a nice input and different anime.

Damn.. I am not crying you are. No you. Damn it... we are all crying. This is dark as hell.

Damn this show made me cry like a ninja onion cutter...
Spoiler Alert:

It has a happy ending - if not I would probably stop watching animes for today. I have to watch now something cute and funny PLEASE!

What to watch in the next months....

ANIME: SUMMER 2019 (WHAT AM I WATCHING?)

Summer 2019... warm and somewhat por lack of animes. Let us see what we have this year because this last year it hasn't been so great.

Another interesting thing - is the diminished lack of tv series coming out...
Let us start when I really start watching (not accounting the ones from last previous years....

Winter 2016 - 47 TV shows  (14 watched)
Spring 2016 - 60 TV Shows  (13 watched)
Summer 2016 - 50 TV Shows (14 watched)
Fall 2016 - 68 TV Shows (18 watched)
Winter 2017 - 48 TV Shows (15 watched)
Spring 2017 - 68 TV Shows (28 watched)
Summer 2017 - 52 TV Shows (25 watched)
Fall 2017 - 57 TV Shows (16 watched)
Winter 2018 - 50 TV Shows (18 watched)

Spring 2019 - 50 TV Shows (25 watched)
Summer 2019 - 34 TV Shows (Gonna try as you all know most of them... 24)

But my top are... (not by any order) - Btw, a lot of isekais again... not that I am complaining :D

1) Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou Asread and White Fox
Seventeen-year-old Hajime Nagumo is your average, everyday otaku. However, his simple life of pulling all-nighters and sleeping in school is suddenly turned upside down when he, along with the rest of his class, is summoned to a fantasy world! They're treated like heroes and tasked with the duty of saving the human race from utter extinction. But what should have been any otaku's wet dream quickly turns into Hajime's nightmare. While the rest of his class are blessed with godlike powers, Hajime's job, Synergist, only has a single transmutation skill. Ridiculed and bullied by his classmates for being weak, he soon finds himself in despair. Will he be able to survive in this dangerous world of monsters and demons with only a glorified blacksmith's level of strength?

2) Dr. Stone
One fateful day, all of humanity was petrified by a blinding flash of light. After several millennia, high schooler Taiju awakens and finds himself lost in a world of statues. However, he’s not alone! His science-loving friend Senku’s been up and running for a few months and he's got a grand plan in mind—to kickstart civilization with the power of science!

3) Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka II
4) Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san 2
5) Yami Shibai 7

Year 198 of the Solar Era in Tokyo, special fire brigades are fighting against a phenomenon called spontaneous human combustion where humans beings are turned into living infernos called "Infernals". While the Infernals are first generation cases of spontaneous human combustion, later generations possess the ability to manipulate flames while retaining human form. Shinra Kusakabe, a youth who gained the nickname Devil's Footprints for his ability to ignite his feet at will, joins the Special Fire Force Company 8 which composes of other flames users as they work to extinguish any Infernals they encounter. As a faction that is creating Infernals appears, Shira begins to uncover the truth behind a mysterious fire that caused the death of his family twelve years ago.

7) Tsuujou Kougeki ga Zentai Kougeki de Ni-kai Kougeki no Okaasan wa Suki Desu ka?
Just when Masato thought that a random survey conducted in school was over, he got involved in a secret Government scheme. As he was carried along with the flow, he ended up in a Game world! As if that wasn't enough, shockingly, his mother was there as well! It was a little different from a typical transported to another world setting, but after some bickering,

"Mom wants go on an adventure together with Maa-kun. Can mom become Maa-kun's companion?"

With that, Masato and Mamako began their adventure as a mother and son pair. They met Porta, a cute traveling merchant, and Wise, a regrettable philosopher. Along with their new party members, Masato and co. start on their journey.

8) Vinland Saga
For a thousand years, the Vikings have made quite a name and reputation for themselves as the strongest families with a thirst for violence. Thorfinn, the son of one of the Vikings' greatest warriors, spends his boyhood in a battlefield enhancing his skills in his adventure to redeem his most-desired revenge after his father was murdered.

9) Uchi no Ko no Tame naraba, Ore wa Moshikashitara Maou mo Taoseru kamo Shirenai.
Dale is a cool, composed, and highly skilled adventurer who's made quite a name for himself despite his youth. One day on a job deep in the forest, he comes across a little devil girl who's almost wasted away. Unable to just leave her there to die, Dale takes her home and becomes her adoptive father.

Devil or not, Latina is beyond adorable, and the adventurer soon finds himself head over heels with being a parent.

But why was she out in the forest to begin with, and why does she carry the mark of a criminal?

High Hopes
Araburu Kisetsu no Otome-domo yo. This show is being done by Lay-Duce which made Release the SpyceItsudatte Bokura no Koi wa 10 cm Datta.. (one of my favourite romance shows) and Classroom☆Crisis

Bem - Bem, Bela, and Belo are ugly humanoid youkai who fight for justice. They live among humans and protect them from evil youkai. The three find themselves ostracized from both humans and other youkai, but the three continue to fight in hopes of one day becoming humans themselves. The trailer seemed cool. So let us hope they turn something out of this... It's original. Looks like action oriented.

Katsute Kami Datta Kemono-tachi e it's from MAPPA so need I say more? It seems a fantasy and action packed.  They created Dororo which has some very interesting battle scenes; Inuyashiki renowned for the special effects and Ushio to Tora ... so highly anticipating.

Mildy Interest

Sounan Desu ka? Looks like interesting show but from a relative new company. The only show they made was Happy Sugar Life which looked like all good sweet stuff and then BANG the psychological horror begns. This one it doesn't seem to be like that and the manga seems not that highly praised...

Granbelm - I highly doubt I will enjoy it but I never say no to trying... Nexus is the creators and they've done Comic Girls or Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry so...  Let us see.

Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru? - Since I don't work out maybe this will help - my eyes :D Comedy and Ecchi- Great combination. From Doga Kobo who have been making solid animes. Some of my favourite are Tada-kun wa Koi wo ShinaiGabriel DropOutNew Game!Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun (which I will be watching this year without any doubt - probably in the next two months) and Yuru Yuri

Given it's a shounen ai music show so there's that. I usually don't like that kind of shows but this is from the same creators of Asobi AsobaseHakumei to MikochiKonohana KitanYoukoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu eKuzu no HonkaiDanganronpa 3Gakkougurashi!Ansatsu Kyoushitsu so... I really can't fault in quality departament. This creator has done another manga called Links which is also something of a gay theme so...

Kanata no Astra - ah.. sci-fi. Let us hope it's good. It's from Lerche so check above. The manga is highly acclaim.

Isekai Cheat Magician - Another isekai.. I just hope he is not overpowered but my hopes are not that high haha Encourage Films is the developers which made Hitorijime My Hero.. yeah basically that.so... mildly to low expectations.

Joshikousei no Mudazukai - don't know who is making but it looks like a comedy and slice of life...so you cannot ever go wrong.

Kawaikereba Hentai demo Suki ni Natte Kuremasu ka? - slice of life, comedy, romance and ecchi. I'm in Heaven :)

Lord El-Melloi II Sei no Jikenbo: Rail Zeppelin Grace Note - looks cool ambient. Mystery and Fantasy connected to Fate Zero so... Troyca were the creators of Yagate Kimi ni NaruRe:Creators; and Aldnoah.Zero

Maou-sama, Retry! - another isekai from the creators of Fumikiri Jikan which I enjoyed. Probably not going 20m episode but who knows...

From Lindefilms come Tejina-senpai and from Gonzo Try Knights

There are some interesting aspects....

There's nothing from A-1 Pictures; Kyoto Animation or P.A. Works (well true be told they are sill airing Fairy Gone but on MAL  it's score it's the lowest from them so far... ) I don't know how it's fairing in Japan so.. This to me is sad because those are three of my favourite studios... Expect a new post on this...

Thoughts XXXIV: American TV Shows (now) are full of SJW crap and Socialist

That's it. They are crap.
From walking dead who the creators said they won't put two same sex characters together - they want to promote multiculturalism, gays and whatever crap there is in zombie land. Most main characters are non-white or if they are white they are gay (unless you count the fan favorite  Daryl Dixon and probably next season Negan. You had two fathers to a child; nowadays you've got a couple with another dad all living together, deaf characters who against all odds survive the apocalpyse. What's next?? I mean, it's Grey's Anatomy for the the apocalpyse.

You had Society and Sabrina from netflix that were pure crap with woman complaining against the white patriarchy (they being white) and giving praise to socialism!
Swamp thing which I am enjoying but then here goes a couple of lesbians couple - why? It had no purpose whatsoever.

Don't get me started on Handmaid's Tale - enjoyed the first season but second season oh my god. It's pure man are evil - white man are evil. Women are victims, like gays and other whatever...

Big Bang theory the last season was truly SJW, Modern Family mocking or not that was also very stupid writing. I stopped watching Z Nation because it was turning into that.

Sex Education - oh my god....  I feel like crying

Then you've got - Fear the Walking Dead (can you understand this is the way to do a great female character? Need I say who?? Damn... ) The Hot Zone (another example of a good strong female character), The Gifted (although there were some awful scenes , very cringing of multiculturalism, refugees and such was altogether entertaining) ; Orville god dammed. Made some multiculturalism, sex and race episodes but this is how you do it right! Why can people learn?

Equality, Rights and Free Speech are not earn like this. Equality to everyone BUT don't try to shove down the throat of everyone.  Nobody likes to be lectured.

I am sorry saying this... every time I try to give tv series a chance I get devastated of how polluted they are. Can't they understand this is not how you should talk about these subjects? Look at Captain Marvel or Dark Phoenix - "you should rename x-men to x-women2 LOLOL this is crap. Not even women feel like this. It's a small minority but unfortunally they have a lot of screen time. very active.... Edmund Burke said almost 300 years ago - "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."  Since the majority don't do anything the evil  will triumph. I am very pissed about this... Thank god the anime :)

The Society (2018) Netflix Original SJW Socialism Crap

Another SJW Crap.

IT all went nice until the end of the second episode. In the third episode we've got ourselves the SJW crap that has been plaguing movies and TV Series.

Basically this story is about a group of schoolboys who are alone in a city, cutoff from everything and we don't know jack about anything. Basically a Lord of the Flies situation.

So the first two episodes we get introduced to all characters which was good and fine. In the last couple of minutes of the second episode some guys start pillaging after some blackout. In the beginning of the third episode the woman stand together and say they say they must do something because of all male testosterone running wild. There is anyone to tell them NO so how long for someone to be rape? Honestly? Oh my fucking god. Where art thou to punish this sinful Eve's? And Adams.

Afterwards the football boys (who basically are the though guys in the town (200 inhabitants) they start talking about, what about trying socialism? Haha

From this moment on I couldn't take this seriously. Oh the majority of the bad people are of course white. We all know that if you are white you are al(l)t-right haha

And then we've got a deaf gay character - we all know he suffers a lot - and the authors really try to make us sympathize with him.

Black homeless guy who probably is the nicest "goodest" character of the show with a nice interracial.

Rich people of course are the bad guys.

All of these in the first 15 minutes of the third episode.

The football boys all talk about raping the main girl because she is the root of the socialism problem. Comedy. Pure comedy.

Woman: I hate all men
Men: I hate them too. My dad suck. Maybe I will suck too. I just don't know it yet...
OH MY GOD!

I stop writing because it become a bit better by the end but it's not good. Too cliche, too sjw at times. Too nowadays (2019) to-be socialist america.

Anime Review: Koutetsujou no Kabaneri (Spring 2016)

One of the first animes I've ever watch and glue me to the screen was Wit Studio's Seraph of the End or Owari no Seraph. Since then I've tried to watch most shows from them since they really excel in drama and action. Shingeki no Kyojin was the second one and afterwards was Koutetsujou no Kabaneri. All of them are really good anime with action scenes almost rival to none and drama that makes you sit and watch everything in one go. One of my favorite takes on romance was Koi wa Ameagari no You ni. So beautiful. Their art so unique and love story that really connected with me.

Look at the latest Attack on Titan and tell me a show with more drama.

I've watch most of their stuff. In my list I Have to watch Hal (movie) & Shisha no Teikoku (movie); Hoozuki no Reitetsu (Tv show) and Mahoutsukai no Yome (Tv Show).

But let us return to Kabaneri. This is a show about zombies or Kabane storming the world and leaving humanity on the brink of extinction. There are only dozens of "cities" trying to survive. To travel between them we've got this armoured trains.

The story begins as a city state being overrun and only a handful of survivors - surviving. Amidst that you've got Ikona who turns half kabane half human - Kabaneri.

Most of the episodes is drama aka game of thrones and the other half is fighting scenes. Really interesting battles.  We learn more about Ikona and later on Mumei another young Kabaneri.

Is there flaws? Yeah... the way Ikona stopped from being a kabane. The festivities when food is so scarce. The black fog. Mumei being every time of dere there is. And the humans are always evil. No matter how desperate things are - human beings will screw a bit more.

If you enjoy action, zombies and a bit of horror (not much) then you've got your hands full. There are some weak spots I might say but it's good. If you enjoy Attack on Titan then you will probably enjoy this.
