October Horror Fest - 19/31- Movie Review: Intersect

Okay, so this movie was really interesting. First of all it's a Lovecraftian movie with hints to the Mythos. In this tale we've got some 3 young scientists who discover a machine with time travel capabilities.

I won't dwelt much on this but the story is told a timeline and as the story goes forward it changes and we get glimpses of past events and the story goes back from to the past several instances.

Is this horror? Yes, it's a Lovecraftian horror at times but most of the time it's just plain sci-fi  or alternative realities. I enjoy it because the all plot its well achieve. The acting is good. Even the timelines are interesting although I might say that I didn't enjoy the meaning or plot. What's the meaning for those monsters? They are never really explained.

It's worth the while - but never to rewatch.

October Horror Fest - 18/31- Movie Review: Follow Me

Follow Me it's another movie dealing with social network. My god...  This is getting boring and after watching the movie, the first twenty minutes I already knew how would it end.

The story it's the following:

A social media personality wants to get more and more famous so what did he do? Well he goes to great lengths to get more famous and so he goes to Russia to one of the most famous and secretive mystery room know to men.

Of course the Russian tells him this is just a game and so on but right from the beginning things to get more and more real and spooky and shit start to happen. Oh he is accompanied by some peeps who are almost dying when he saves them.

I am going to spoil... after going through the escape room this guy kill Live the Russian because he thinks the Russian kill his friends but all of them where with the Russian all the way. Enfin..

It was predictable BUT I must say it's not boring or bad written or so on... the problem is that its' kind of hard to invent knew horror. And after watching hundreds (I've an excel file with them) you've seen in all... Some surprise you but they are rare...

October Horror Fest - 17/31- Movie Review: #Alive

#Alive it's another take on the zombie genre the Koreans are really fond in the couple of years. Basically chaos erupts and a young boy it's trapped in his house.  Most of the movie it's set on his house (and half the movie forward) in another survivor house and by the end deals with their escape.

This is very focused on the characters and how they deal with the horror of being trapped. No food and the drama of being alive and without knowing what happen to their family. I will not dwelt more on it because there isn't much to talk about but I enjoy it.

Train of Busan deals with action scenes and this one it's more character oriented.

No doubt Korea is enjoying making Zombies movies and this one leaves open  a sequel mayhaps. Oh if you are wondering the symbol before Alive it's because, as we are set on a new reality where internet is ever present in this movie it focus a lot on technology including social networks...

Go watch it. 90minutes.

October Horror Fest - 16/31- Movie Review: Train to Busan Presents: Peninsula

Koreans do like Zombies or at least do it quite nicely.

First of all if you didn't watch the first go see it. If you didn't watch the TV Series Kingdom go see it. They are pretty good.

First of all, this is not a sequel of Train to Busan. This has nothing to do with that. The only thing they have in common it's that they are in Korea.

So basically zombies ravage Korea (but not the remaining world) and nobody goes there anymore. The last people escape and koreans are not second world citizens in other countries.

But someone wants to go there because - if everyone left, and nobody is alive - who got the money they left on banks or trunks and so on?

So basically several Koreans go back (at the behest of some crime syndicate) and for personal gain of course. But it seems not all people died and the ones that survived adapted.

IT was very action focus (like the first movie) and it was very interesting until the end - as most korean cinema there is an happy ending.

Go watch it if you enjoy Zombies, Post Apocalyptic Worlds and children that drive better than any F1 driver.

Don't expect sex scenes or nudity.

October Horror Fest - 15/31- Movie Review: Better Watch Out (2016)

This was some very interesting watch. After watching another horror tale dealing with babysitter I thought of trying others. This was got me by complete surprise.

Basically this young teen (12 years) is alone for the final time with her babysitter because she is getting to university and must depart.

After some together time they are attack by outsiders but  nothing is what it seems and we get one of the biggest twitch in horror takes. It seems this young 12 year teen is a mastermind of epic magnitude and she becomes the victim of this teen wet dreams. But this teen it's not at all saneand things get out of hand when accidents and not so accidents happens and people start dying.

I dare you to watch it. There's no nudity so don't watch it for it. But it's a horror story with some comedy within.

October Horror Fest - 14/31 - Movie Review: Framed (2017)

There are a lot of movies called framed. So don't get mistaken. This is "correct" Framed .

This is
a story about a group of teenagers who are watching something akin to tik tok but without limits or restrictions. And since everyone is so focus on getting more people to watch they are prey two two insane teens that start streaming as they hunt and massacre of group of teenagers.

When I watch this I remembered some other stuff very similar to this...

Regarding Gore and violence it's there on the top. I must say I really enjoy it. But the IQ of most people inside that house it's very low- apart of that I would say this is a very well achieve story. I would say apart of REC I don't know any other Spanish horror tale as good.

October Horror Fest - 13/31 Anime Review: Higurashi: When They Cry

Higurashi is one of those animes, probably the only one, you can really think it's Horror. There aren't many (that are good). If you go to MyAnimeList you will find titles like
Monster (8.73) ; Yakusoku no Neverland (8.65); Berserk (8.48); Perfect Blue (8,45), Hellsing Ultimate (8.42) & Kiseijjuu (8,42).

To be honest there are others bellow and even these above that I wouldn't consider Horror. Neverland it's a thriller with some horror elements, Berserk it's the pure grimdark fantasy. Hellsing has some horror elemnts but it's more vampire story with flashes of Terror. Then besides this ones you've got Shinsekai Yori wish I didn't enjoy and the horror it's very limited to be honest. It's more apocalyptic fantasy tropes than horror. Maybe the last 5 or 6 episodes have some elements of horror but nothing too strong.

They also put Akira, Dorohedoro which are not horror at all. They have some graphic image of monsters or such but not horror. Jigoku Shoujo it's more horror than any of the above and it's rating it's below 8.

Higurashi sits with a 7.97 rating.
So what's Higurashi? Higurashi it's a story about a boy who goes to a village Hinamizawa and meets several people there. Each episode is set in "arcs" and each arcs it's a different approach of what happens in the village and it's inhabitants.

In each episode one of them goes crazy and kills the rest or some of the other people. It's very interesting to be real, although some arcs are not as good as others.

There are two seasons and now a third season it's being aired as we speak. We later understand that this is not a retelling of the events (like an anthology kind of events) but in reality after each arc the world resets and the only one that knows it all it's Rika a young teen of 10 or 11 years old that in the reality has 110 years old. as the series progress the remaining characters also start to have glimpses of their past lives if you will.

This is a good Horror show. The first I can honestly say it's horror although if we are going to preciosisms  this is Psychological Gore Horror.

In terms of rating I would give 8 stars to the first season and 6 to the second.

I would advise to anyone who wants to dwell on Anime Horror - which to me it's very poor. Maybe it's hard to make horror in anime? I don't know. Since part of the anime (2/3) come from Manga or even Light Novel maybe it's hard to make good horror manga? I don't know...

October Horror Fest - 12/31 Book Review: Best of Weird Tales

I cannot give more than two stars because I didn't enjoy the majority of the stories.

Well, first of all I expect more on the vein of HP Lovecraft, Robert E Howard or Clark Ashton Smith and the likes but true be told some didn't really hook me.

The only one that really go full Lovecraftian (an I am talking half-full) was Brian's Lumley story.

The best story by far was Tanith's Lee Death Dances. So much that I immediately grab some of her other titles and made into my to be read list (not now, but near future). As I read I was transported to Conan's world and my mind went full Sword and Sorcery.

The second best was Karl Edward Edgar. It seems he could not give up on Kane and now Kane is in London and a mystery/adventure stories unfolds. If you have read his fantasy stories and you want to visit Kane again go here.

Kudos also to Brunner and Ian R Macleod.

Then others were just plain boring like Gene Wolfe's , Harry Turtledove, Tad Williams etc... Maybe it was just me but they didn't captivate me.

October Horror Fest - 11/31 - Movie Review: Wrong Turn 5

So since all people are dying in previous installations and nobody is really interested this tale deals with a town that commemorates hillybillies. It's like Halloween.

Well, we follow a group of teens as they make some sex and do some weed. Meanwhile the hillybiillies are killing people and eating them but this time they are helped by a "normal" cannibal. This one at least can talk and shit.

Well, after the kids nearly run over him (by mistake) he attacks them and polices arrives and arrest everyone. From this moment on, the cannibals try to free their "father" or something like that while killing people the most comic and innovative way. For people who cannot even speak they sure invent new ways of killing people.

Again, most people are really dumb. The cannibals are attacking on a village that only ten minutes ago were filled with people vising the fair. But now the power is out and where did those people go? Screams, shots and even explosions - but nobody leaves their house to check it out? We are in the middle of town square for god sake.

It's very stupid. At least the ending was... well predictable but I wasn't expecting they killing the xerife...
lol Lt us see the last one.

October Horror Fest - 10/31 - Movie Review: Wrong Turn 4

The fourth is the beginning or one of them of the Hillybillies. We get to know a bit how they were capture and put on a sanatorium and they riot. This was in the 60's. Fast forward to 2000's and a group of teenagers go to a remote area to skii and are stranded on that sanatorium.

Again poor characters and poor acting and all die by the end. That's it. More sex scenes than the previous instalments and even some girl on girl sex.

To be honest these kids wanted to died since their actions translated that... Why go alone when there are enemies afoot. The hillbillies kill several of their friend but are capture. When all of them wanted to kill them a singular woman say - no no. That's wrong. THEY ARE FUCKING CANNIBALS!  They are less than human. They have no mercy. Enfin, of course they all died.

Because of the weak plot, weak characters and weak acting I would say this is crap and the last one.

October Horror Fest - 9/31 - Movie Review: Wrong Turn 3

Well Wrong Turn 3 is set when a convict trunk goes off the road and several prisoners and polices are in a crash accident. Afterwards the prisoners overcome their guardsman and try to escape. Meanwhile they find a old truck full of money and that divides the prisoners even more. A survivor of the Hillbillies appear and tell them of the monsters but nobody believes her until they start dying.

So basically not only there was attrition between the prisoners (

one was a nazi, the other was a Mexican and three more random guys) but also the Hillbillies were hunting them.
To be honest was better than the second but nothing new to the genre.

The attrition between the prisoners and police were boring and really bad acting. The only interesting thing was that by the end three people survive...
a policeman who wanted to be a lawyer (those too goodies kind of guys); a woman who had survive previously and a prisoner who  they taught it was wrongly enjailed and in the end they let him go.

Well by the end, a couple of days had pass and the police men went back to where the money was to get it (for him) and he is kill by the goodie prisoner. When he is retrieving the money he is also killed. Only the woman survived ( it seems). It's the first time I saw this happen.

That ending was good enough to be better than the second movie.

Less nakedy bodies but interesting.

October Horror Fest - 8/31 - Movie Review: P2

What I wanted to say about this it's very little. True to be told I didn't expected anything good and it isn't.
I wonder what goes on in the mind of some actress and producers and so on...
The story basically is the following...

So a woman (Rachel Nichols) is working late in a company where everyone is gone except her and some security guy. This is Christmas Eve and the car doesn't work. After trying to leave on Cab the security guy goes berserk and knocks her out. After dressing her up, she escapes and she is caught and so on until the end she finally kills the man after he calls her the cunt.

Okay. several points - First; She saw him in a video abusing her (touching her breast, legs and so on), but then just handcuf him in a car. When he calls her a cunt she sets him on fire? What? So you are not repugned after being abused and you are trigger by calling you cunt? OK.

In a party, another older guy takes a chance with her, not trying to win her over but abusing she throws her out and we see her saying she accepts his apologies.. this is in the beginning? Why should you accept that? I was drunk, sorry I raped you. I am not drunk now so all is good? Cool.
Enfin.. At least he died by the hands of the security guy...

But so in one hand I believe the movie is trying to say - yeah abusing women is bad and so on. Which I totally agree and really hope they are punish. But then in the other hand Rachel Nichols is most movie in a dress that makes you fawn over. Sorry guys. I am a guy so I think about that with woman. And she is HOT! FREKING HOT.

But the point remain what was the aim? All men are bad? You shold be more aware of women struggle?  So what's the point of getting that clothes on her? The  plot would still be good if she was not in those clothes...

October Horror Fest - 7/31 - Movie Review: Wrong Turn 2: Dead End

Well, I've watch the Wrong Turn 1 a long time ago, we are talking more than 10 years ago. I thought I had watch them all but it seems not because I sure didn't remember seeing the second or third. The next three will be next couple of days...

This one it's coming LIVE from some Hilly Billy county where a group of people is playing a simulated post apocalyptic reality show but then it goes wrong.

There a family of inbred it's stalking and killing the contestants which true to be told are wide and with variety. From a sensitive jockey, a lesbian female marine, a woman who will do anything to get fame (including go naked of course) and so on...

The most interesting character was Colonel Dale because the rest behave like you expect.

After watching the 1, 2 and 3 (not the 4th, 5th or 6th) I would rank this last. But let us see.

The gore and action scenes are good and the inbred really do some weird shit. Wondering how they can live like that for so long. I say this because in one of the shots we see a warehouse with dozens not to say hundreds of car's.

Advisable if you are going to go all the way. If not skip and go to the third.

October Horror Fest - 6/31 - Movie Review: Several Crappy Movies Don't Watch

Here we go... This last few days I've watch some movies where either the quality it's very crappy or the story is bad. Some I skip forward some time and even failed to finish. They are rather unwatchable.

Parts Unknown

It has some interesting cover but that 3.3% should be an indication that it was bad.  The script was bad but even worse was the acting... Nothing was redeeming here.

It shows it has some more budget but most movie is two people. That's it. It's a tale about a young woman who has some maritage problems and meets another older woman. Then she invites the younger to her home and bad things start to happen. But overall it's not new or even good. To be honest it's quite pointless overall. Not that horror - more of a thriller?

Another movie that was made in a low budget. I Really dislike this kind of camera. The acting is not good as well. I cannot give any recomendation here as well.

This is some bad shit. Really bad. It's like that Witches movie from the 90's  (The Craft) when several friends become witch but with a budget of 1000$ you really couldn't expect more. BAD. There are four reviews in IMDB. Two are 1 start and two are 10 star (This reviews were made by people who are members from IMDB for 5/6 days so... )

Another story that all in all don't even deserve a 1.

October Horror Fest - 4/31 - Book Review - Dispatch by Bentley Little (2005)

Ahh Bentley Little.
Having read several of his books I believe this is my favourite horror writer. IT's not stephen King

or Richard Laymon but Little. I don't even read so many of books in one go because I don't want this to end.

I've read The Store; The Association (my favourite); The House; The Mailman; The Collection; The Resort; The Town; The Revelation; The Walking.

I have to read His Father's Son; Death Instinct; The Burning; The Disappearance; The Vanishing; University; The Return; The Summoning; Dominion; Guests; The Policy; The Academy; The Ignored and the Haunted.

Some of the newer ones I never had them because they are too expensive like The Handyman; The Influence; The Consultant; The Circle; The Bank - but lets be real, I will buy them probably.

So, this one follows the same trope as the previous I've read and it's the only writer I know that does this.. We follow Jason who discovers that he has some real artistic valour at writing letters. He finds out that as he writes letters they are heard and good things happen. As times passes on he understands that he has some kind of power and some of actions have really impact, not like previous where he received some free food or something like that.

The story itself it's written in first perspective and it was interesting to see that he is a unreliable character and sometimes do or say something that he goes against what he previous said.
Most novel (at least 2/3) are about this power and about the consequences of his actions. But all of this time, and from time to time he receives enigmatic letters that come into reality and change his life. He starts writing not because of pleasure or need but because it's a job and at the same time an addiction.

The "evil" entity turns out like the evil that exists in the book The Store or The Association. It's within us, it's no one, it's everyone, it's a bit lovecraftian. It's very difficult to fully tell who the enemy is.

But it's Jason a good character? Not at all. He is a evil character on his own after all in his teens he makes a girl get dressed, through some letters and even sent a picture. His sex life it's all about him and he even kill his own father - true to be told - his father his not the best father with frequent beatings. His mother is no better and he continually torment her with letters. He is self-centered and as I said obsessed with writing and the power that comes with it.

I've enjoyed it. I've read it 4 days which to me it's pretty good. Advisable but to newcomers I would advise starting with either the Store or the association.

October Horror Fest - 3/31 - Tales from the Hoods 3 (2020)

Lets say it... It's a racist movie.

I understand this is a movie made by black for black and to black people. But can't they make a movie without criticizing white people?

It's very offensive, well two of the stories are rather offensive to white people. The first tale it's an interesting take. A guy wants to buy an apartment in a condo so he can sell it to another guy and transform it into something profitable. If people don't go the easy way - lets go the hard way.

The second story it's one of the racist things I've saw. Most story it's about a white racist guy being... racist while sitting on a bunker while other people are watching him. I deduced what's happening.. so basically it's like a zoo where they put white racist or mysogist guys and black people look at them.

Then we have two more tales.. One also it's a bit racist anti-white and the last it's about karma. There is also one tale that goes between all of these tales.

Overall.. don't watch it unless you are a racist person.

I won't deny that some stories are good BUT I can't praise this like I wouldn't praise the other way around.

October Horror Fest - 5/31 - Movie Review: Books of Blood (2020)

Well this was a very interest intake on horror. I enjoy clive barker and it's novels. I've read some of the book of blood short stories so I eagerly sat and watch this. This is a compilation of  several stories interconnected. This is not like VHS where there is a tale and other not-connected are told (or even tales from the hood). These tales are all connected. There are multiple main characters each one with his /her tale and then they are all connected in some way.

It was very good. IT made me watch without pause and I really wanted to see the ending of each tale that was indeed very good. I won't dwell much but one tale it's about two gangsters who are trying to find the Book of Blood which they know it's highly value and unique. You've got a girl who his out of meds and is hearing and seeing things until she finds  a nice little hotel. This hotel is run by two very friendly people and you know what that means.

The third story is about a woman who has lost his son and his job (even before) is hellbent on discover frauds that deal with the supernatural - until she finds a young teen.

I advise to watch the movie. BUT I Highly advise you to find and read all 6 books of blood.

October Horror Fest 2/31 - Hubbie Halloween (2020)

I really enjoy this more than I think I should. In this story we follow Hubbie a somewhat retarded (at least awkward -

maybe autistic - man in the middle 30's. He is easily spooked and thinks himself as the police of Halloween. He tries to warn people of the troubles that Halloween brings. Due to his demeanour of course he a punch bag for everyone in town, including kids.

This is a comedy with some hints of  horror (like kids horror) like in the RL Stine (but not spooky).

Here we have this awkward man, armed with a swiss-alike thermos where it could be a soup, umbrella, gun etc as he investigates some disappearances throughout the town. He is help by Violet (Julie Bowen) who is a hot momma and for some reason loves Hubie.

It's very interesting - although Sandler voice is quite bad. Why the voice? I don't understand.

It's a light-hearted story full of comedy and fantasy. It's avaiable on netflix.

October Horror Fest 1/31 - V/H/S (2012)

Incredible or not I've never watched this trilogy of filmes.

V/H/S was a rare find a
nd I really enjoy the format it was created. Basically it's a compilation of short movies (7) within one movie.

Basically all tales follow the premise of Found Lost Tape. The main narrative we follow a group of misfits that pass their time destroying houses and even more serious criminal classes like assaulting sexually a woman. They also videotape those things. In this tale they found a house where a old man is dead.

Then each tale is presented because within that house they found dozens if not hundreds of tapes. One of the elements stay in the living room watching those tales.

You've got one tale about a group of friends who hit on a couple of girls (one of them is quite strange) and something odd begins to change as that strange woman transforms into a succubus of some sorts. She then kills two of the guys and a strange sexual ritual begins. Very interesting.

The second tale is quite odd and I bit some part of LGBT community is upset.- But if so, then fuck them because you can have heterosexual, gay or trans people portrayed as killers. I will not even going to enter the JK Rowling debate which of course is nonsense.  Overall the tale is a tale of love as well as is of betrayal. Good.

The third story is quite strange to be honest. It's a tale about a group of friends going to a field trip, camping of some sorts as one of them tries to scare them with a story. A really interesting twitch appears and that evil doer it's quite interesting. Wish more stories were written with him.

The next tale it's very interesting because we see in the perspective of a young teen speaking with the boyfriend and she think the house is haunted and she even finds that something is controlling her. After some interesting encounters we understand this story deals with aliens and incubators.

The last story deals with a group of teens masqueraded and they go to a Halloween party but instead find a haunted house and there are some people performing an exorcism of some sorts. They save the girl but then poltergeist happens and everything goes downhill. Very cool.

Overall, it's a good intake of horror with pretty much every time of stories you can imagine. There are nudity in almost all stories which it's always a plus and never really that far-fetched.

Anime Review: Summer 2020 Yahari Ore ; ReZero; Maou; Kanojo, Uzaki Chan and much more

Well I haven't been making reviews for a while on anime but I want to at least review a couple of animes per season.

This season brought us Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru. Kan. To me this show was sufficient (but thank the lords there were more haha).

Finally the end of this saga and what an ending. This anime is one I would advise to anyone who is entering anime ALTHOUGH this could be too much. Finally we see Hachiman coming into fruitation and we all knew which girl he would choose. Unfortunately one of the girls would become sad and of course we all knew Yui Yuighama become the third wheel.

Then we had other follow ups like Re:Zero which really delivered and it was very interesting to watch Subaru and the rest of the gang again. A third season is int he making. I am just sad that there isn't any Rem (or almost none). This is another anime, unfortunately not ended that I had no qualms suggesting to anyone.

Enen no Shouboutai, Sword Art Online Alicization also return and they are no better or no worse than the previous season.

Regarding new shows we've got Deca-Dence that to me didn't delivered but MAL is crazy about it. Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha is also a good solid fantasy show where our protagonist is almighty - quite literally but to me it worked (SAO per example I didn't enjoy that).

Kanojo, Okarishimasu - in one way I really enjoy the show. The animation was very good; the girls were interesting - each her own way - even the blonde bitch. But the main character is a total wreck. I still enjoy it.

Uzai-Chan wa Asobitai is a very interesting romantic comedy (no third wheels) so you know what is going to happen in the end - not these season haha. She had some great... assets. Let's be real, some of us where watching due to be echi.

The God of High School is a show that I was enjoying the first three episodes or so then it really grow in magnitude and gods were fighting and I was lost at times. I believe this show could have been without a doubt a long 24 or 50 episode stuff. BUT alas...

Dokyuu Hentai HxEros I started watching but lets be real, we were all watching because of Ecchi stuff and nudity. So after watching 5 eps I said to myself I would be watching after the uncensored stuff comes out.

On the other hand Peter Grill already had an uncensored version and it was quite good to be honest. All girls were hot. The same applies with Ookami-san with only 3 episodes 5m each it was our porn of the week that we are all used by now. The other one was Kyojinzoku but it was a gay stuff and I don't enjoy gay porno sorry. Didn't even try.

Monster Musume no Oishasan; Umayon are crap. But one of the worst was Gibiate. It could be good but it's not. The special effects were crap and the story was not that great. Not even the characters were that interesting.

Regarding last season stuff we've got Fruit Basket 2nd Season. I enjoy first season, this one is interesting but true be told our main character is boring as fuck. And every time EVERYTIME someone talks to her she becomes apologetic for existing. I don't like her. It seems a third season is required to finish the story. At least other characters were interesting.

Then I also finished Fugou Keiji: Balance:Unlimited and I know MAL loves it but meh. It's just meh. It's like the above MAOU as our main protagonist it's not invincible but full of money. Boring.

The one I most enjoy of this "before" animes was Ahiru no Sora. Really interesting characters  as they grow and change.  Our main protagonist is central in the beginning but then the focus gradually expands and we are introduced to other characters each one could be easily the main one. Even a girl has a main spotlight more focus on romance but very relatable. I hope for 2 season.

Then we've got  Houkago Teibou Nisshi- Just meh. Cute Girls doing Cute Things

Shokugeki no Souma last season. I believe the manga ended here. It was interesting to watch all her lives. The ecchi is top but the ending (is as the manga) but I hope for some... romance?  Oh well, either way. Shounen food was never tastier haha

Appare-Ranman! started bad, then covid happened. 5 months after they return and it was mildly interesting and then it end. I hope for some romance but alas...
