Anime Review: Yuru Camp (Winter 2018)

Yuru Camp is the epitome of Slice of Life about something most anime fans will never do but will love it nevertheless.

Like Long Riders! was about learning how to enjoy driving a bike this one was about camping. Both had some rookie advice about stuff you must have or could have while others had more complex information about stuff both things.

This one had a minor sub-plot on food-porn. Each time they made outdoor food I thought WHY do I have a kitchen if I could only a mini-stove and do it all? It's sad...

Lets be real, Yuru Camp is way better and the rating on MAL proves it. The art and animation are way better. The characters as well. In this one we have pro Shina Rin while on Long Riders you had 3/4 girls but both had a clueless girl Nadeshiko in this one and Ami in the other one. This also follows a trend I enjoy about anime trying to educate anime fans about stuff we don't even care.. or think we don't - Hinako Note made about a trope of Theatre, Urara Meirochou about a fictionalize divining school, Stella no Mahou  about a computer company, Konohana Kitan & Kabuki-bu about Kabuki.

Don't get me wrong - it's interesting that anime can make this stuff a shows us that those things can be good. Geez I wanna go camping and I hate bugs.

So why the high rating? Well it's a blend of very Cute Girls doing Cute Things with incredible landscapes you could have on your PC, interesting music. It's relaxing and watching before bed will grant you passage to nightmare-zone free zone. I smile while I watch this anime.

And the food!

If you want to relax, explore and watch do stuff you either don't feel confortably doing OR if you love it and do it this anime is to you. Slice of Life to the fullest.

Rating 8

About C-Station - nothing particular interesting. Besides Starmyu or Seikoku no Dragonar.

Anime Review: Ryuuou no Oshigoto! (Winter 2018)

Here we go again with another anime about Shogi. One of them is at my radar (March comes like a lion) and a couple others. The last one I watch and was comic as heck was Tonari no Sei-kun. There were so episodes that dealt with Shogi and the stories the other character made in her mind - one is a battle between chess pieces and shogi. Go watch it.
Well but what's Ryuuou all about? Well the only thing I learn is that anime can make a boring Shogi game into a harem-comedy-exciting and FBI knock-on-your-door kind of sports. Why I say this? Well overall the anime never tries to teach you about shogi in any way showing some supposedly impressing moves about a game you've never played in your life. Maybe for japanese who play shogi that should be interesting.

In terms of other stuff not Shogi well... it's sucks.
We get to know some underage girls who play better than professional players - there isn't a distinction between them all. For those who love soccer - yeah everyone can play BUT you can see when it's a professional player or amateur. You know there are differences between Ronaldo or Messi and most other players in the world so that came out a bit bland. I mean, maybe it's because I don't understand Shogi BUT I don't think that's it...

Overall characterization is nonexistent, with probably Keika a 25 year old shogi player who must evolve to a professional player or else she must quit (don't know if it's a rule or something like that). Btw, why Shogi has a female and male rank? It's a mental game not physic so can't understand that "real life" situation. Yaichi is boring bland character and both Ai (the 9/10 year old girls) really love him for some reason. There is also a Ginko who is a Tsundere.

Every trope of a harem is there. There isn't much romance because Ai (one of them) is always blocking the stuff... There are some other more mature (if you can call it that) situations where both Ginko and Keika (probably not totally serious way) try to understand what Yaichi thinks of her. Bear in mind that one is 14 and the other is 25 while Yaichi is 16/17.

The animation is quite alright I have no complains there.

If you are watching with some other people around you beware because a couple of episodes (I think it was the first or second) there is a situation that almost puts Eromanga Sensei to shame... Rest of the episodes are quite alright.

About Project 9... They've made that I watched Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta? (Enjoy a lot). Tenshi no 3P! Yeah the little girls harem situation again...

Anime Review: Citrus (WINTER 2018)

Citrus is a show that initially led me to be believe it could be something more than Shoujo Ai but it was not. As each episode progress I became nauseous of Mei Aihara because I couldn't understand why the hell everyone was so interested in her. She is like some bread without salt...

This story is about a young girl Yuzu Aihara moving from her current house because her mother is getting married and starting at her new all-girl school where her step-sister Mei Aihara goes. And there comes trouble. Her step sister is a “perfect” girl, a student council with her life all plan out. In the other hand Yuzu is a Gyaru which clashes a lot with the rules of the school.
In terms of romance, Yuzu never felt love and Mei in the other hand had one loveless romance and the first time she meets Yuzu kisses her saying that it seemed she needed. Well Yuzu learns that she is a lesbian and that's a wrap.

Plenty of girls trying to fool her around, first Himeko the vice-principal of student council which seems to have feelings for Mei); Matsuri Mizusawa who extorts money from men and now wants to have some fun with Yuzu and Mei (but at the same time teaches her both about feelings) and then in the last 3 or 4 episodes come Sara & Nina Tachibana from another school. One suddenly develops some love interest with Mei and it's the last step to Yuzu to realize what she must do....

Overall there are some interesting points in the anime BUT mostly in art and animation. Well and the music. Everything else is quite bland and we've seen it all. Nothing new. Safe-sex anime with a little lip kisses and other moments where you could say it touches sexual harassment...

It's not an anime I would personally suggest to anyone. There are better Shoujo-Ai animes out there...

Anime Review: Landlock (1996)

Landlock is a fantasy tale made in 1996. It has more problems than good.

Basically a boy and a girl (brothers) live happy in a village and they are suddently attacked by another girl who kills their father and destroys the village.  After some roundabouts they are captured and taken to a citadel.

The reason the girl wants to capture the boy (not the girl) is because he has some hidden power.

After the ending of the first episode we learn that this girl who is a commander on her father's army understands or realizes that her father is not her real father. She realizes (with the help of other boy and girl) that she is the twin sister of the boy she captures - This is quite easily to understand since both have one eye of each color (red and blue).

They help them escape but are soon recaptured and in the final confrontation the not-father shows his true colours and releases his hidden "wind" power. But in an anti-climatic ending the girl (not the twin) unleashes her true power and defeats the bad guy.

Truly bad ending.

The animation is okay - nothing worthy and the sound was made by a single keyboard -basically. Nothing worth of attention.

Anime Review: Cyber City Oedo 808 (1990)

Cyber City Oedo 808 it's an interesting anime that deals with three criminal being turn upon police and for each resolved crime their 300 plus sentenced would drop a couple of years.

Each episode focus on one of the three man. The first one focus on Sengoku the second on Gogul and the third on Benten (not the original japanese names...)

Interesting part is that each one focus also on a theme. The First more on action scenes and where man turns into a machine (Ghost in the machine?); The second movie on cyborgs and the last one in immortality.

Even if this was released on 1990 it has a lot of 80's feeling (the music, the cyberpunk and so on..)

Poor characterization ruined and the action scenes are nothing to brag about...

Anime Review: Sakigake!! Cromartie Koukou (Fall 2003)

Sakigake!! Cromartie Koukou is a comedy/school anime that unfortunately in the end fails to delivery. I watched after watching Detroit Metal City and was one of the suggested so I jumped right in.

I must say I enjoy it but after some episodes it was always the same jokes and situations which bored me a bit. There is timeline and the characters evolved a bit and even if the beginning they say it has a main character by the end of 26 episode I can hardly say he is in half the show. Or at least is part was minor in some of the stories.

There are some interesting stuff and it remind me a bit of Gatos Fedorento (a comedy show here in Portugal).

Cool to watch but not that cool that I would advise to anyone. In the same vein I would advice Detroit Metal City or the best known within this comedy niche - Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan.

Freddie, the gorilla, the robot, the aliens, horses - that is only the normal day at Cromartie School

Anime Review: Oneechan ga Kita (Winter 2014)

I am going to make four connected reviews...

I recently watched some smaller time-wise animes like and three of those are very similar Onii-chan love!
DanchigaiOneechan ga KitaSuper Seisyun Brothers and Cyclops Shoujo Saipuu.

Oneechan ga Kita is a boring anime about a older girl being in love with her younger step-brother being almost a stalker. As the episodes grow the brother grows into her. Although it's a generic school comedy as we watch episode after episode of Ichika being obsessive of Tomoya.

Watch it all in one go or else as a long 30m episode. (That's how I did it)

Anime Review: Cyclops Shoujo Saipuu (Winter 2013)

I am going to make four connected reviews...

I recently watched some smaller time-wise animes like and three of those are very similar Onii-chan love!
DanchigaiOneechan ga KitaSup
er Seisyun Brothers and Cyclops Shoujo Saipuu.

This show tells us a tale of Fuuka where she looks like a high school girl but she is a middle school. She has older brother who promise to marry her and now she wants it. Full of ecchi situations and we see Hikaru grow into her and in later episodes to fantasize about her. If you enjoy ecchi then please grab a popcorn sack (or some tissue) and go for it - 30m of ecchi situations. BUT Bear in mind she is in middle school... not high school.

Don't know who the publisher was (neither on wikipedia, MAL or other websites... strange no?)

Anime Review: Super Seisyun Brothers (Fall 2013)

I am going to make four connected reviews...

I recently watched some smaller time-wise animes like and three of those are very similar Onii-chan love!
DanchigaiOneechan ga KitaSuper Seisyun Brothers and Cyclops Shoujo Saipuu.

Super Seisyun Brothers is the last of the four I watch with similar themes but this one is not about brotherly love "sexual" but brotherly love in terms of being brother and sister.

Basically it's the tale of two pairs of brothers which are best friends but all of them are quite different from the others. There are some development with the characters as we watch them in different situations.

We follow Chiko e Chika Shinmoto and Mako and Mao Saitou (confusion!!!). What's interesting is that this tale is not done or should not be done because there are some treads to follow.

What I initial thought of boy loves the friend's sister kind of situation is not that like at all. The only one that likes the other friend's sister is Mao. The other three are oblivion to those feelings.

One hour of your life and you can watch it in one go and treat it as a a movie if you like - unfortunally there was never a sequel so...

Anime Review: Danchigai (Summer 2015)

I am going to make four connected reviews...

I recently watched some smaller time-wise animes like and three of those are very similar Onii-chan love!
Danchigai, Oneechan ga Kita, Super Seisyun Brothers and Cyclops Shoujo Saipuu.

They are all comedy and slice of life althought some have some ecchi or romance withing.

Danchigai is about a boy who is left alone with four sisters. There are some romantic-brotherish situations which makes it very funny and overall it was my favourite of the four. Particulary Nakano Matsuki who to her younger sisters behaves almost perfectly but then with her brother shows her true colors. Very funny situtations almost witty.

There aren't any story within (thus the slice of life) but it has some developments with the characters.

Anime Review: Memories (1995)

This is a movie produced in 1995 and it's a compilation of three stories.

Magnetic Rose
The first one (and the longest) is a sci-fi space exploration story, called Magnetic Rose, and it's about a group of people who are inbound to a graveyard of spaceships to rescue someone.
As two guys go one of those spaceships they start seeing stuff that's in not there. It's very bleak experience as they traveled in the ship. It correlates with the title because that ship was made so a woman wouldn't forget about her life - but it turn to something wicked.

Stink Bomb
The second story it's called Stink Bomb and it's a dark comedy that I cannot phantom where it connects to the "Memories".  Basically the plot is set in a scientific station where people are developing drugs - but one of those drugs unfortunally has a side effect and as guy eats one of the pills, everybody in the lab dies. He then adverts the Laboratory HQ which tells him to return those papers to him. As he travels to Tokyo, where he passes a mist appears and everyone dies.

All SDF forces attack to no avail because it seems the mist also has some side effect that disrupt electrical stuff. It's very dark But comic at the same time.

Cannon Fodder
The third story called Cannon Fodder could connect to Memories but it's very far-fetched. Basically it's a story about a city (communist distopia feeling) where everyone works to fire cannons. From the men who handle the cannons, and the women who make shells and the children who learn their trade. It's very 1984 feeling because they are attacking some other nation that it's never seen or hinted. We only know it's a moving city. But it's a very good tale. The animation is not to everyone liking but I really enjoy it.

All three are great stories, unfortunately, I don't understand who two of them connect to the title BUT that's potatoes.
